Thinking the Peak to Peak Byway might be a little too high (re altitude sickness) on our first full day in CO, I'm looking for the most scenic route via Boulder that holds elevation below 9000 ft. Any suggestions will be appreciated. The highest point along the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway is near Ward at less than 9,500 ft. - one source says 9,300 ft. You will not be spending much time at that altitude. If you continue through Estes Park and into Rocky Mountain National Park, you can drive one of the most famous scenic byways in all of the country: Trail Ridge Road. I drove it in the clouds and rain in May, and was still impressed.
