I also bought a $20 kydex sheath that is available for it and it fits great on my backpack. I had no interest in the Seal Pup due to the serrations, but when I looked at the (referenced) Seal Pup Elite and handled it, I bought it immediately. I will only use it for general camping stuff, but I also like the idea of having a powerful knife (even if I won't use that power fully). Anyway it's a dead ringer for the one I had. I believe the blade thickness is slightly more on the elite. Last edited: Apr 25 ... base of the blade, right side, opposite the side with the SOG SEAL PUP logo. Both the Seal Pup and the Seal Pup Elite are products of SOG Specialty Knives, a well-known brand for quality and robust knifes. It's meant for "fighting." I like the SOG's looks better, but I like that the Mora has a long medieval history and is made in sweden (is it irrational that I think the Taiwan-made SOG would be worst quality?). It's great for food prep, wood carving and splitting wood for fires. Manufactured by Kinryu of Seki in highly corrosion resistant Aus6, the Seal Pup became one of the knives issued during BUDS (USN Seals training). I would really consider Seal Pup Elite since it is thicker blade and is AUS 8 stainless which is one of my favorite steels The sog wouldn't be the best bet for a camping knife. The knife is extremely sharp, tough, and is a workhorse. frankly I'd go with Ka-Bar or Ontario since they should be cheaper. I love my SOG seal pup elite. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002CC6BPM?pc_redir=1404826492&robot_redir=1. My fav low cost camp knife Condor Bushlore. SOG Specialty Knives & Tools E37SN-CP Seal Pup Elite Knife with Straig... Mora, for sure. I'd recommend to back it up with a small axe/hatchet for larger logs. The knife is awesome and the leather sheath rivals knives that cost 3x the money. I have an Elite (satin finish, straight edge non-coated) that I like a lot. The SOG Seal series is terrible for camping bushcrafty stiff. The Seal Pup Elite is that, as is the Gerber Prodigy and a great many other knives which are all superior to the LMFII for general utility cutting and woodcraft. I've used these knives over the years and still like them for use as my primary knife. How about this 40$ mora compared to a 60$ sog? Taiwan makes good knives, but id still recommend the mora. What scares me about the Mora is the price (I know high price doesnt always translate to better, but I'm sure we all still have that intuition in the back of our minds). I have narrowed it down to two knives: http://www.amazon.com/Morakniv-Bushcraft-Tactical-4-3-Inch-Sandvik/dp/B00KOM3YCA/ref=pd_sim_sg_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1VM4GC01DE73HWKHS8FF, http://www.amazon.com/SOG-Specialty-Knives-E37SN-CP-4-85-Inch/dp/B001C2LGPI/ref=sr_1_3?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1404856269&sr=1-3&keywords=sog+seal+pup, Any advice? If you are restricting yourself to only these two knives and your demands do not match the first line, get the SOG. I can see now from your second pic it looks like it says Taiwan. The SOG Seal Pup was introduced in 1995 as a smaller version of the SOG Seal2000 which SOG submitted to the US Navy for testing. The only differences are that the Elite uses AUS8 blade steel, is made of slightly thicker stock, can come with a plain edge (vs partially serrated) and has some gentle jimping on the spine of the blade. I have a 2006 Seki Seal Pup as well as a current Seal Pup Elite. After that SOG moved production of the Seal PUP AND added the Seal PIP ELITE under manufacture in Taiwan. The scandi blade grind will also be much easier to maintain in the field. non-serrated blades and different coating options. I'd go with a mora, but not the one you posted. How about a regular Mora Bushcraft Force or Companion? Thanks. All things pocket knives. I... Actually own both. I love my SOG seal pup elite. I believe the blade thickness is slightly more on the elite. The nylon glass reinforced handle isn't quite as comfortable as the Mora and seems to be made for bigger hands, but it is indestructible. I have more fixies now but its still my fishing knife. I would regard it as a higher quality knife and is definitely more badass than the Mora. They're not tactical but neither will you be in the woods. (E37S SEAL Pup Elite - Straight (Black TiNi Blade)), and I'm pretty sure I've seen them. When I see people talk about the "awesome for its price," they generally talk about the 15$ ones. Ive had one for a while as my only fixed blade and it was always great. Maybe not the sexiest blade, but it will much better as a camping/utility knife. I'm trying to get my first knife. So there's not really a benefit in spending more. Tough as nails for the price. I have an Elite (satin finish, straight edge non-coated) that I like a lot. SOG Seal Team vs. Seal Pup and Elite vs. Non-Elite Hello - I have been trouble finding these knives to compare side by side before I place an order on-line. An alternative to r/knives. I don't know if you've seen the posts but people ate swearing OFF of sogs and swearing BY Mora I'd get the Mora it's a little more maintenance but sogs quality I hear can worth crap. SOG is AUS6 stainless which is not one of my favorite steels. It's a more comfortable handle, has a not-too-big blade with nice thickness, nice overall weight. The knife is extremely sharp, tough, and is a workhorse. SOG Seal Pup i got used on eBay back in the day. Ground too thick and the edge is too thick. Both these knives are similarly priced. I haven't been able to find a SOG Seal Team to see how I actually feel about it in my hand. I would highly recommend going with the Seal Pup elite and getting a Mora companion when you can afford another knife (around $20), as it is a classic. In terms of blade material it is the same steel and the differences primarily reside in the coatings and style of blade, i.e. I do love the Mora. Press J to jump to the feed. I'm not a fan of the nylon sheath of the SOG, but I'm also planning on getting an aftermarket kydex for the Mora, so I'm picky :-) I don't really use the SOG much as I just didn't have a click with it. There is the SOG Seal Pup elite series that offers different blade finishes as well as the option of a blade devoid of any serrations if you like just a clean blade the entire length of the knife. I would regard it as a higher quality knife and is definitely more badass than the Mora. I'm new to knives (literally started like today to research). SOG’s fusion line and lowest priced products are made in China.
